I love our animals around here. The bunnies, chickens, and of course our kitty!

New Garden Beds

I was tired of so many walkways in the gardens, there was really no reason for it and caused a lot of water wasting when the sprinkler was turned on. So we combined garden beds!

We also moved the bunny area to a new location so they wouldn't get spooked  when people came and went. This also allows us a little more room to add a new bunny cages!

Book Review: Farm Anatomy

Title: Farm Anatomy: The Curious Parts and Pieces of Country Life
Paperback: 224 pages
Author: Julia Rothman
Publisher: Storey Publishing, LLC; 1 edition (October 1, 2011)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1603429816
ISBN-13: 978-1603429818

This book is just fun. Its simply wonderfully illustrated  book full of fun facts, recipes, and other misc good stuff. The front cover is a hodge podge on drawings that you will see throughout the book.

There are sections on farm animals, their breeds, colors, markings, cuts, and other good info. There is a look into the country kitchen and all the things you will find, a look into a farm shed and barn. I mean this is just a really fun book. It is not in depth, there are not a lot of words, its not a how-to but its a great reference point.

I was fascinated by the way a cows stomach works. 4 stomachs wow!

It has the prime cuts of the major meat animals. Yum!

Rabbit Humping

We had our bunnies out today, cuddling them like always. Except for one difference.. When they we hopping around on the ground, Blaze our buck mounted Tifa and had his way with her. I was shocked, confused, then panicked!

She is what I thought is to young, and we are not prepared but such is life. We are now getting nest boxes for the bunnies, I have marked the date on my calender, and we will work together to build the meat pen for the babies. In 30 days we will know if she got knocked up, and if so she will have a litter of cute little baby bunnies!

Today walking around my garden and planning a whole new layout, yet again! I was admiring the kale and cabbage. Yummy!

Ch-Ch-Ch- Changes

While you know we are always changing around here as we see fit one thing hasn't changed. Our income status. We live paycheck to paycheck like many other families out there just barely meeting our minimum. But this last month my husband got a new job. He is now the Doorman/Security Guard at the Harbor House Condos on Bayshore Blvd. This brings us from him working 14 hours a week to about 40 hours a week! What a help this will be!

Yes this means our daughter will have to be in after school care but only from 3-6pm 3 days a week. Unfortunately though I now have to work Saturdays at my job which means yet again we have no time together but hopefully with this extra income we can be more comfortable and start saving for a farm of our own. Woooo!

Spring Cleaning

It was chilly around here these past couple days, the type of wet damp clingy cold that only Florida can produce. It seeps past your clothes, through your skin and chills right to the bone. Northerners don't think it gets cold here but waking up in the morning to temperatures in the 30's this past weekend and even the minor promise of snow may be enough to change their minds. It is the wonderful Florida 3 day winter were we all complain that we are to cold only to turn around the next week (when its back in the 80's) and complain we are to hot. Ah yes, home sweet home.

Kept out of the garden by the cold weather and lack of proper winter clothing, I happen to think 30's calls for a down jacket and long underwear, we cleaned. The start of spring cleaning, that deep down nitty gritty type cleaning where you yank everything out of your closet only to reorganize it and put it all back. It felt good to get things in order, lots of stuff found its way to the trash, yet another pile was created to list on freecycle, other stuff found itself where is should have been all along; organized. Then can the sweeping, dusting, scrubbing, moving, shoving, sliding, and of course the ohhhhh thats where that was.

15 loads of laundry later we have a full dresser, a clean and sorted closet, and more clothes then I think we really need, I swear I wash clothes 3 times before I see anybody actually wear it. I even cleaned under the bed and that was scary, but after the fear of attacking dust bunnies past I was surprised at what I found under there.... Diapers? But she has been out of diapers for over 2 years... yikes! Guess this means I need to clean under the bed more often. I feel better now that the bedroom, kitchen. and living room have been totally cleaned. Now we are working on the bathroom, laundry room, dining room, and the daughters room, but Brooke's room is a whole other scary situation and I hate to think what lurks under her bed. If I'm not out in 2 hours send in a search team,  just look for the empty bottles of cider and the crazed woman wearing diapers on her head. :)
